Parking Garage & Basketball Arena Closures
Over winter break 2013, the university began work on a new 829-spot, five-story parking garage, which is slated to open in fall 2014. Construction on a new multi-purpose arena (which includes a food court, academic areas and the basketball facility) will begin in spring 2014, with the opening expected during the first quarter of 2016. (Completion dates may vary depending on weather and unexpected delays.) The parking garage will be located where the northernmost football practice field currently sits, on the west side of Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. The arena will take the place of the West Stadium Parking Lot and the Rebel Shop. Parking and driving near the construction zone of both of these sites will be difficult for the next two years, and about 575 parking spots will be unavailable to our campus community. During construction, please allow extra time for parking and plan ahead when accessing this area of campus. To help accommodate commuters, faculty and staff who park in this area, the OUT Park & Ride Gold Line shuttle has added an additional stop and is now servicing the open large lot located behind the Ole Miss track facility. The lot contains 272 parking spots and is open to anyone with a faculty/staff, commuter or residential hangtag. The shuttle arrives every 5-7 minutes from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., picking up passengers at the north end of the large lot behind the Ole Miss track facility and dropping them off at Kennon Observatory on All-American Drive. The lot is available only to holders of permits that allow for parking in central campus locations, such as faculty/staff, commuter and residential permits like village and fraternity. Park & Ride permit holders must continue to park in the South Lot or the Jackson Avenue Center.
Phase II (March 8, 2014 – January 2016)
Phase II of construction on the parking garage and arena begins March 8, 2014 and will last no later than early 2016. Phase II closes the entire West Stadium Parking Lot and a portion of Hill Drive, including the intersection of All-American Drive. The Turner Center faculty/staff lot, located at the intersection of All-American and Hill drive, will also be affected. One commuter lot located adjacent to Tad Smith Coliseum will be re-designated as faculty/staff lots on March 8.
Phase I (December 2013 – March 2014)
As part of Phase I of construction, between 25-35 parking spots in the West Stadium Parking Lot were fenced off due to construction. In addition, the three parking lots bordering Hill Drive (behind the Turner Center and located between the football practice fields and the Turner Center tennis courts) were closed for the duration of construction on both projects.
